Waverider Buoy Newbiggin Ness

Situated about 1 mile offshore to the east of Newbiggin Point is a floating buoy called a Waverider. It measures the wave height and wave power continuously and relays that information to shore by telemetry. This is vital information in  determining the impact of wave energy on coastal erosion and therefore marine life habitats. It can give early warning of approaching storm conditions. Follow the signals via this link to see the waverider in action.
